During 2009 I was a part of a school which was working in a completely online environment using Desire 2 Learn (D2L) or My Learning as it was known within the school. It was the introduction of the platform and online tools for teaching in addition to the introduction of a 1:1 laptop program within the year level.
This afternoon I have had an opportunity to look at the new learning management system for the ACT Department of Education, cLc, and as usual for me, I was left with more questions than answers.
Not about the platform though, that will be workable and I can see where I can go with it, actually it will be fun. But there are so many questions about the provision of ICT and if we have the capacity to support it and use it as it is intended to be used.
Yes, I would like a laptop at work which has access to printers (actually I would like that for the communal desktop I use), the network drives and other things which I once took for granted in the more tech friendly areas of Australia. Perhaps there is the opportunity for some lobbying for this to be changed with the rollout of the new system… but I won’t hold my breath. Well not seriously.
We left the show and tell session impressed with the possibility, but daunted by the reality. Fortunately admin is listening.
